6-Course U-Minor for Students who do not Major/Concentrate in
PSCI or BPUB

 

This program enables undergraduates interested in American Public Policy to construct an integrated program across the University. Graduates of the University of Pennsylvania with an American Public Policy Minor are expected to be in great demand by government agencies at all levels, consulting companies, and government relations departments of private sector firms. The proposed minor -- for students who do not major or concentrate in PSCI or BPUB -- requires six courses, three from each department, in addition to the course work required for their major or concentration. The courses include the following:


Political Science (3 courses)


PS 130 Introduction to American Politics is required along with two c.u.'s from the following set:

  • PSCI 240 Religion and U.S. Public Policy
  • PSCI 241 Polarization
  • PSCI 330 The Politics of Governance in Washington (taught in Washington DC)
  • PSCI 332 politics, Planning and Policy Analysis
  • PSCI 335 Healthy Schools
  • PSCI 430 The Transformation of American Politics
  • PSCI 481 Political Theory and Public Policy

 

 

Other Political Science courses maybe approved as substitutes by the Political Science Department  for American Public Policy students.

  • BPUB 201 (Political Economy of Social Policy) and
  • BPUB 204 (Cost-Benefit Analysis: Decision Making in the Public Sector) are required for all students. One c.u. from the following set may be chosen:

Other Business and Public Policy courses may be approved as substitutes by the Business and Public Policy advisor for American Public Policy students (BPUB 236, 288, 289, 298).
